Celebrate our Independence : A Fourth of July Party

I mentioned Kristian, in my post last week, making the flower arrangements and helping me with the decor at Olivia’s bridal shower.  Well, today I have a real treat for you.  Kristian designed and decorated a Fourth of July summer party that was absolutely amazing.  I was honored to be able to help her with the set up and take some pictures.

Her and her mom did all the food themselves and Kristian made all the cute pinwheel decorations as well as the flower arrangements you see in the pictures.  Kristian is so talented and if you are having a party of any kind contact us for an unforgettable event.

I bring to you lots of eye candy and hopefully inspiration for a real party too!  (This party could be done for an outdoor shower, birthday party, or even a summer wedding reception.)

Happy Fourth!

Molly

The backdrop of the party was gorgeous.

As you can probably tell, we had to battle the famous Texas wind.

I love the place settings.  All the table decor was Kristian’s own.

Kristian made the drapes on both windows.  She doesn’t miss a thing!

I just love the pinwheels that were used on the invitation banner and drink bucket.

The Constitutional Corn on the Cob and fun party favors filled with candy mints and red hots.

The “Stately Sliders.”  How cute are those little flags?

The Patriotic Parfaits and Summer Salad.  Kristian and her mom are great cooks/bakers.

The Liberty Lemon Curd Tarts.  Sadly, the flies got to them so I didn’t get to eat any but they look wonderful.

Looking at those Izze drinks makes me thirsty.

I love the flowers Kristian used in this arrangement.  They remind me of fireworks.

Okay, so I couldn’t get enough of these beautiful babies.  They were also super delicious.

Even the wording on the invite stuck with the theme.  Notice the hostesses ;)

Between the two of us, we were able to come up with fun names for all the food using alliteration.

This is so rustic chic.

My favorite!

Featured on Catch My Party : Olivia’s Bridal Shower

Soon after I posted Olivia’s real DIY gray and pink bridal shower last week I received an email from Jullian, the founder of Catch My Party, asking me if she could feature the bridal shower as her “Party of the Day.”  I was beyond thrilled so I joined her site and today she is featuring Olivia’s bridal shower as the “Party of Day.”

Catch My Party is a website where you can post all your pictures and memories of any party you throw and share them with your family, friends, and other party lovers.  It you enjoy throwing parties of any sort this is the site to go to for inspiration and share your own party.  If you would like to see Olivia’s bridal shower on Catch My Party click here.

Thanks again Jullian, it was an honor and a wonderful surprise! I wish you much success.

A DIY Gray & Pink Bridal Shower

I haven’t been able to blog much lately because I’ve been either working on my sister Olivia’s bridal shower or looking for Todd and I a new place to live.  We still haven’t decided on where or even if we should move (staying in the DFW area though) but I did help throw Olivia’s bridal shower the other weekend at our parents’ house in Abilene, Texas.

I really wanted to have some kind of theme and turn out a true party for Olivia so I did a lot of research online before hand and all I have to say is I’ve been on MarthaStewartWeddings.com too many times to count.  I did several google searches on bridal showers and wedding parties and came up with some really great sites for inspiration such as The Wedding Chicks,  Hostess with the mostess, and Style Me Pretty.  These are all great sites if you’re hosting a party but they’re really wonderful for brides who are planning their wedding.

For the shower we used the colors gray/silver, white and shades of pink with a fun, elegant, slightly retro theme. One of Olivia’s other bridesmaids, Kristian, hosted the party with me and did all the floral arrangements as well as help me with food and decorations.  My mom also pitched in by making a killer chicken salad and helping out when we needed an extra hand.

In my eyes the shower was a success.  As the guests arrived they signed in and were given a handmade corsage that they could later take home with them.  We had a light fare of finger foods and cupcakes for desert.  Then we played the “How well does the bride know the groom” game and let all the guests guess how many questions Olivia would answer correctly.  The winner took home a small flower arrangement. Olivia had no idea that we were going to ask her questions so it was a lot of fun for all of us.  I especially enjoyed playing Katie Couric, asking Steven the questions before the shower.  But I believe the best part of the shower was having the guests give Olivia advice or in our case “ingredients for a happy marriage”.  All the messages were so special and I know Olivia will look back at them for years to come.

So I present to you a real diy gray and pink bridal shower, elegant with a little retro flare.

Enjoy,

Molly

The guest sign in table with pipe cleaner flower corsages for the guests and a wrist corsage for the bride.  For all the paper goods I used a template from The Wedding Chicks and did a little photoshopping to personalize it.  Go check out their site because they not only have free invitation templates and monograms but great inspiration for brides.

Most of my inspiration for the shower came from this Martha Stewart Pink Shower.

I dressed up glass votives I already own with pink ribbon and used some sheer fabric for a table runner.  My co-hostess and partner in crime, Kristian,  is on the right.  We also like to call ourselves MSITs – Martha Stewarts In Training.  I kid internet.

The spread close up.

The delicious punch.  For the recipe click here.

I don’t know why but when you put fruit in your beverage it makes simple tea or water look sophisticated and pretty.

Here’s my mom’s mini chicken salad croissants I mentioned before.  It was so good.  On the right are “Individual Crudites”.  Now I don’t speak this fancy but Martha does =).  I saw these at Martha Stewart Weddings and thought it was a great idea.  After looking at her picture again I probably cut my bread a little to tall, woops.

Since I don’t throw parties very often, I borrowed almost all the serving ware you see on this table but the cute white cake pedestal and white square plate.  They’re both from Crate&Barrel and were very affordable.

I made homemade cheesecake flavored mints from a recipe my aunts used for their weddings and showers.  A good friend borrowed me a rose mold and they turned out almost too cute to eat.

The cupcakes looked amazing and were delicious.  The frosting was homemade but the cake was made from a good ol’ Betty Crocker white cake mix.  It took several trial runs but we were determined to get that perfect swirl on top.

Again the beautiful flower arrangements were all done by Olivia’s bridesmaid Kristian.  I’m trying to convince her to start her own business.  If you’re interested in her work contact me for her contact information.

The arrangements were made up of gerber daisies, roses, hydrangeas, peonies and others I don’t have names for.

These recipe or advice cards are great to do at an intimate shower instead of games.  I got the idea from my husband’s man shower where his hostess had all the men write advice for him on actual recipe cards.  Some were funny and some were really sweet, but we love looking back at them.

My mom took the next few photos.  I’m so thankful too because I was so busy playing hostess I almost forgot to take any.  Thanks mom!  By the way that’s me on the far right.  One of these days I’ll put some pictures of myself on my about page.

My sweet little niece made an appearance.  I’m biased but how cute is she…

The bride-to-be having fun opening gifts.  She totally has that bridal glow.

Bedford, Texas Wedding: Amanda + Joe

I have been so excited to post Amanda and Joe’s wedding pictures.  It has taken me over a week because I had a lot of family in town the week after their wedding and was not able to do much work.  I guess you could say I was on a vacation of sorts.  So without further ado let me tell you a little bit about the happy couple.

For Joe and Amanda it was love at first sight but unlike Joe, Amanda wasn’t ready for such strong feelings so quickly.  So, she tried to slow the relationship down by playing a little hard to get (I could totally relate to this).  But true love can’t be stopped.  It wasn’t long after they started dating that Joe asked Amanda what she would say if he asked her to marry him, a semi proposal (I like his style =) ).  Unfortunately, she shut him down and said her answer would be no.  She was a little scared, how could two people fall in love so fast?  However, Joe wouldn’t give up so easily.  He asked her again after a few more dates and she said she would think about it if he had a ring.  So what did Joe do, he got a ring of course (and a really beautiful one at that)!  He proposed to her officially and this time she said yes!

Amanda and Joe’s wedding day was beautiful and so much fun.  With family and friends, they said their vows at St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford, Texas.  Their reception was beach themed and held at the Knights of Columbus Hall.  The attention to detail and the dancing was so amazing that I’m going to make a separate post for them.

Amanda and Joe, I can’t tell you enough how appreciative I am for you inviting me to capture your love on your wedding day.  You are family and friends.  I hope you two had a wonderful honeymoon and wish you all the happiness in your future together.

Much love,

Molly

P.S. I have to say thanks to my brother Chad for being my second shooter.  Love you!

Amanda’s dress was beautiful.

I love lace!

This wedding was filled with special touches.  Amanda’s mom made this pillow for the rings and it was gorgeous!

These guys were a bunch of laughs.

Amanda looked like a real Princess.

It was so easy to photograph Amanda because she looked so amazingly beautiful.

The bridesmaids were so much fun and totally worked it.

Amanda has some talented family.  Her older sister Cecilia and her business partner did all the floral arrangements and decor at the wedding and reception.

I love how natural and romantic Amanda looks right here.

I haven’t seen a bride so happy and radiant.

Amanda’s nephew did the honors of walking her down the isle.

I love this recessional photo.  You can see the joy and excitement written all over their faces.

We wanted to bring back the old school “bride-in-front-of-the-alter” picture.  It think anyone who got married between the 50′s and 70′s had this picture in their album.

Joe went to something like nine stores to find the perfect ring for Amanda!   I have to say he did good, her ring is gorgeous.

They couldn’t stop smiling.

How sweet is this picture…

Work it, Own it…

I’m so glad I was able to capture this moment.  Joe looks so tickled.

Off to the partay!
