Fort Worth Portraits: Olivia, Part II

As promised, here are more pictures of Olivia.  I have to say again, thank you sis for modeling for me.

You might ask why should I have portraits done?  Pictures from a portrait session can be used for your personal blog or website, business card, senior announcements and/or as a present to your loved one.  It is also a great way to capture your children and family’s personality.  Another great reason to have a portrait session done is simply to make you feel as special and beautiful as you truly are.

If you are interested in a portrait session please click “Contact” in the top menu or email me at molly@molly-kate.com.

Molly

She is simply beautiful.

The picture on the left reminds me of an Anthropologie ad.  The one on the right is smokin!  Olivia gave a print of it to her fiancé.

Wow, totally gorgeous!

I love how effortless this pictures is.

Fierce you say? Accomplished!

I love the colors of Fall.

Livs, thank you for all of your support and taking a few (maybe several) mosquito bites for the team.  I love you!

Stay tuned for an engagement session of Olivia and her fiancé, Steven.

You still have it, Sir Elton John

I don’t have an “About Me” page set up yet so I thought I would write posts that tell you something about me until I do.

Growing up, I listened to Elton John, Neil Diamond, Journey, and Simon and Garfunkel to name a few.  I listened to this music because that is what my Dad would put in to the old cassette player (this totally dates me) on family road trips.  My Dad doesn’t play any instruments or sing but he taught me how to appreciate music.  To this day, I still love these singers/bands and so many more.  Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, Country, you name it, I listen to it (with a few exceptions).  I am a true lover of music.

Elton John was on Oprah yesterday and sang his hit Tiny Dancer.  The man still has it at 63 years old.  Even if you don’t like his music, I believe most people can appreciate his clear musical talent.  He writes his own music and lyrics and plays the piano beautifully.  The man knew how to put on a great show too, just look at his crazy outfits he wore.  Lady Gaga and Katy Perry were not the first to push the envelope that’s for sure.  If you don’t know who Elton John is then you should definitely check out some of his hits such as Tiny Dancer, I’m Still Standing, Candle in the Wind, and Rocket Man.  We’re bringing back the 80′s fashion so might as well bring on the 80′s music!

Enjoy,

Molly

Matt - 80′s music? Like Iron Maiden and G&R? You know what kind of music I like Molly, but I do appreciate Sir Elton. I’ll give him some (a wee bit) love for his vocals.April 20, 2010 – 10:47 PM

leslie - lest we forget YOUR SONG! C’mon Molly! ;)April 17, 2010 – 10:08 PM

Fort Worth Portraits: My Sister, My Muse

Anytime my sister Olivia and I travel together people think we’re twins but I’m actually three years younger.  Finally, we decided to call ourselves Irish twins after watching some Lifetime or Lifetime-like movie that used the term for two sisters who were a year or so apart but were so close, like twins. I know we’re total nerds but we love it!

Last fall Olivia was so kind to oblige me in a portrait session.  As you can see, she is gorgeous and makes a great model (sorry guys she’s taken).  Even though we only live about 30 minutes from each other, we still don’t seem to hang out as often as we like so it was good sister bonding time too.

During the session I told Olivia to be “fierce” like Tyra Banks says on America’s Next Top Model.  I assumed my sister watched this show or at least a few episodes like myself but apparently she hasn’t because she gave me that face like huh, what?  So I did my best Tyra “fierce” face for her and I must have done a decent impression because Olivia totally pulled it off.  I love what we captured that day!  Here are a couple from the shoot and I’ll post more very soon.

Feel free to leave me some comment love. =)

leslie - this comment is from my mom “wow. molly’s stuff looks really professional” and “oh yeah, they do look twins!” haha. And I love that you channeled Tyra! LOL way to go.April 17, 2010 – 10:10 PM

Too Many Options: Professional Printing Companies

There are a few options for printing services: 1) Go with a specific lab, 2) Go with an online fulfillment company, 3) Release your photos to your client to print on their own.   I feel my business is so new that I don’t need to jump in to the online fulfillment business yet so I have decided on number 3.  I am giving my first client full resolution pictures on DVD and a print release form.  This sounds simple, right?, but it was a learning process for me.  I had to figure out dpi (dots per inch) versus ppi (pixels per inch) for resolution purposes and by the way I still haven’t totally figured it out.  I also learned a lot about color profiles like the difference between RGB, sRGB, and Adobe RGB.  From what I’ve read the best color profile (or most common) for most printing companies is sRGB.

Another decision I had to make was to put my brand/logo on all the files and I did.  I believe it will be good advertising for me especially since they will be placing some pictures on display at the wedding and reception.  This decision comes with a price though.  My client may have the problem of the logo being cut off depending on the print sizes she orders.  For this particular client, she is mainly printing 4×6 and 5x7s which shouldn’t cut off the logo but in the future I am considering leaving my brand off of the pictures.   Including my brand also required me to give my client a print release form.  Of course I didn’t have this made up yet so I leaned on Google again and found this release form and this forum very helpful.

So, see what I mean, this was a great but big learning experience for me.  Below I listed the photo labs and online fulfillment/proofing companies I’ve found through other photographers’ blogs and Google.  I hope this helps someone!

For Professional Photographers:White House Custom Colour (WHCC), Miller’s Professional Imaging

Professional and Consumer Photographers:Mpix, Bay Photo Lab, BWC Imaging, and Full Color, Inc.

Online Fulfillment/Proofing: SmugMug, Pictage, and PickPic

Grapevine Engagement: Amanda + Joe

I was still kicking around the idea of becoming a photographer when Amanda approached me to do her wedding photography.  Of course, I made sure she new the extent of my abilities and experience to date but she still wanted me to take pictures of her and Joe’s special day.  I am beyond thrilled to capture their love on April 24th.

Last week we went out to Grapevine Botanical Gardens to take some engagement photos.  The grounds are a lot smaller than the Dallas or Fort Worth gardens but are still beautiful and well kept.  The Grapevine Botanical Gardens had a unique charm and is a perfect place to take pictures or just relax and read a book.

Thank you Amanda and Joe for taking a chance on me!  You will always be my first, my first clients that is.  Yay!!  I hope you enjoy your pictures and know how much I appreciate the chance to capture the love you two share.

Love,

Molly

Amanda knows how to work it!

Joe, you don’t even have to try.

Black and white can really add a little something special.

Joe didn’t want to kiss because we were in public but we got him to do some eskimo kisses.

I love the tenderness in this shot.

Amanda you’re beautiful.

The sun was hard to get away from as you can see by Joe’s squint.  Thanks, Joe, for being a trooper.

Okay, I saved the best for last.  You two look so amazing and truly in love.

Thanks again you two!
